Members of the City Council “broke bread” with West Sacramento Seniors on December 11 at Café Yolo inside the Community Center. Each Wednesday, an average of 17 seniors gather for a congregate meal, supplied by Meals on Wheels Yolo. This program is based at the Community Center and, with the help of 72 volunteers, delivers about 1,000 meals per week to 239 homebound West Sacramento seniors. That’s about 56,000 meals annually!

Mayor Guerrero and Councilmembers Orozco and Alcala each shared inspiring words about the importance of community and connecting with seniors. The Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers were also recognized and thanked for their efforts. The soft opening of the West Sacramento congregate dining program began in July and has held a steady momentum. The City sponsors Via rides for seniors to keep the program accessible.
